Who We Are

At the City of Las Vegas Department of Neighborhood Services, we strive to serve and better Las Vegas communities. Our focuses include neighborhood betterment; services for unhoused individuals, veterans, and seniors; grant programs; and community outreach. The Department of Neighborhood Services values kindness, commitment, and care for all of the city’s communities and strives to make Las Vegas a better place to live.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Department of Neighborhood Services leads with an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. This method involves assessing what kind of resources the community already has and using those resources to the community’s advantage. Community volunteers are just one example of those resources!

MISSION

The Department of Neighborhood Services aims to foster community pride and sustainable neighborhoods through human services, outreach, and community initiatives that improve our residents’ safety, health, and wellness.

VISION

Our vision when it comes to volunteering in the city of Las Vegas is to bring people together for the shared goal of bettering the city that we live in. Whether that be something as simple as a cleanup event or as complex as a community renovation, we believe our goals are best accomplished together.

What We Do

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS

Programs like Keep Las Vegas Beautiful focus on neighborhood beautification projects. Opportunities from this include neighborhood cleanups, recycling events, cigarette butt cleanups, painting projects for faded fire hydrants and curbs, and more.

SPECIAL EVENTS

The city of Las Vegas often holds special events for our different programs, such as Public Safety events, Health and Wellness events, and many others. These events can sometimes require volunteers to help out by doing things such as setting up the event, watching over a group of people, signing people in, breaking down equipment, and cleaning up after the event.

LARGE-SCALE EVENTS

The Department of Neighborhood Services will participate in large-scale events occasionally. These may include large conventions or long-term beautification projects that volunteers can participate in for an extended period.

ADOPT-A-SPOT

The Adopt-A-Spot program allows volunteer groups to sponsor an area of their choice. Groups will be provided supplies and support from the Department of Neighborhood Services to keep their area clean and litter-free. After 6 months of successful participation, the sponsoring group/organization will be formally recognized with an Adopt-A-Spot sign. To register for or learn more about Adopt-A-Spot, please email Vanessa Acosta (vacosta@lasvegasnevada.gov).
