Volunteer Opportunities From: United Way of Southern Nevada Volunteer Connect

25 years ago, our nation changed forever.

And while most up to today’s youth were not alive on September 11, 2001, they are the generation who will carry its meaning forward.

Creating a Giving Culture LV is looking to leading a citywide, youth day of remembrance, bringing together local K through 12 students across Las Vegas to honor the lives lost recognize our heroes and ensure this moment is never forgotten.

At the heart of this project will be a powerful, never forget remembrance wall created by students and filled with messages of gratitude and reflection.

HOW CAN YOU HELP AND GET INVOLVED

Schools, Teachers, Churches and Clubs:

We are looking to collect 4x6 cards please have the students write 1 or 2 sentences answering “ Why is it important to remember 9-11”  or ‘“How can our generation continue to honor those we lost?” Students can also add a drawing and on the bottom, please write their name and grade.

We are looking to have K through 12 schools do one video with the entire school saying “WE WILL NEVER FORGET “this videos will be put together and played at the event.

SPONSORS WE NEED YOU:

We are looking for sponsors to help with the location and event supplies, light refreshments, most importantly, we need sponsors to help with the supplies for the remembrance wall. Without you, this is not going to be possible please help us make this youth remember day as magical as possible..

We are still in the early stages of planning and would love to make this a special day remembering those we lost on 911. Help us celebrate 147 Hospice Children

We are launching our ”Because Every Child Deserves a Birthday” Hospice program. We are partnering to support 147 pediatric hospice patients, many of who have developmental delays and complex medical needs.

No parents should have to walk this journey, and no child should ever feel forgotten on their birthday During such an incredibly difficult time for families, we hope to bring moments of love, comfort, in a bit of joy when it’s needed the most.

To ensure each child feels celebrated on their birthday, we are helping provide sensory based birthday gifts that bring comfort, joy, and meaningful engagement. 

We are currently collecting light up toys, musical toys, soft, stuffed animals, soft blankets, sensory, and fidget toys, coloring books, stuffed animals that can record voices. Anything that you would like to include in a thoughtful birthday basket for a hospital child in their family is deeply appreciated.

If you would like to sponsor a birthday or donate items, please reach out. This project is led by youth who believe kindness has no age limit, and that every child deserve to be seen celebrated and loved, and no family should be alone during this difficult time.

Donate Soft Easter Bunnies for Children in Hospice Care

Creating a Giving Culture LV is collecting new, soft Easter bunnies to bring comfort, warmth, and love to children receiving hospice care this Easter season.

We did this project a few years ago, and the response from the children and their families was unforgettable. Something as simple as a soft bunny brought smiles, quiet comfort, and moments of peace during an incredibly difficult time. The gratitude and emotion from families truly melted our hearts and stayed with us long after Easter ended.

Some children may not be able to celebrate Easter in the ways we often take for granted, but they can still feel remembered, cared for, and surrounded by kindness. A soft bunny becomes something they can hold onto during moments when comfort matters most.

We are inviting individuals, families, schools, churches, clubs, workplaces, and community groups to donate new, soft plush Easter bunnies. All donations will be thoughtfully delivered to children in hospice care.

Creating a Giving Culture LV is collecting American flags to support local veterans memorial efforts and remembrance events.

Each year, volunteers and community members come together to honor veterans by placing American flags in remembrance of their service and sacrifice. As this meaningful effort continues to grow, we are seeking donations of American flags to ensure every veteran is honored with dignity and respect.

We are currently accepting donations of 8 x 12 inch American flags on wooden sticks. Flags may be new or gently used and will be handled with care throughout the memorial process.

This opportunity is family friendly and open to individuals, schools, faith based organizations, community groups, and businesses who wish to support veterans in a meaningful way.

Donation drop off details will be coordinated after sign up.

Creating a Giving Culture LV is preparing for our upcoming youth led Community Giving Carnival, a large scale service event bringing together K through 12 students to serve the local community.

This project is led by the Nevada Volunteers Youth Council, in partnership with Creating a Giving Culture LV, and is recognized as an official America 250 Nevada Gives Project.

To make this event possible, we are collecting individually packaged snacks for student volunteers and community members participating in hands on service activities.

We are currently seeking donations of granola bars, individual bags of chips, and fruit snacks. All items must be unopened and individually packaged.

This opportunity is family friendly and open to individuals, schools, churches, clubs, businesses, and community groups who would like to support youth service and community engagement.

Donation drop off details will be coordinated after sign up.

Creating a Giving Culture LV is requesting donations of oral hygiene supplies to assemble 1,500 Smile Kits for underserved individuals and women’s shelters across Southern Nevada.

Access to basic oral hygiene items is often limited for individuals facing hardship. These Smile Kits help restore dignity, confidence, and overall health for those we serve.

Items needed (new and unopened):

• Toothbrushes

• Toothpaste

• Mouthwash

• Floss

Goal: 1,500 of each item

Community members, dentists, schools, churches, clubs, businesses, and families are invited to support this effort by donating items or hosting a collection drive.

This opportunity is family friendly and appropriate for K through 12 students volunteering alongside adults. Service hours may be available.
