We're hoping to extend our outreach in southern Nevada and create more opportunities for UWSN volunteers. If you know a facility that might want to receive letters, please share this link: https://www.lettersagainstisolation.com/care-homes Please don't sign up on behalf of a location; a director or manager from the facility must complete the form. If you’re reaching out, only contact a facility you know personally, such as one you’ve volunteered with, worked at, or where a friend or relative lives. You can also pass along our press release with more information. If you're personally interested in writing letters, check out our UWSN volunteer listing. Seniors are also welcome to join us as letter writers! If you—or someone you know—might enjoy writing to brighten another senior’s day, we’d love to have you as part of our community. Thanks for helping us deliver more smiles to seniors’ mailboxes! Volunteer: Volunteer with Tech ImpactGet involved with Tech Impact by volunteering within one of the following roles! PROFESSIONAL/SOFT SKILLS TRAININGS: Every Friday, corporate volunteers present professional skills training using a curriculum developed by Accenture. Topics include Resume Writing, Interviewing, Leadership, Time Management, Professionalism, and Financial Management. Each session is two 2.5-hour sections (5 hours total), and 2-4 volunteers lead each Friday session. MENTORING: Each student is assigned a mentor, typically an IT professional. Our mentors commit about one hour per week to the program. LUNCH & LEARN VISITS: We encourage local technology executives, recruiters, and other partners to spend the lunch hour with our students to talk about their career path and engage with the students. HOSTING ITWORKS INTERNS: Corporations and nonprofits provide 5-week (minimum) IT internships (24 hours per week). The ideal internship site has a technology staff member that the ITWorks student can shadow, provides enough work to occupy the student's time, and includes the student in as many different projects as possible to broaden the student’s view of the IT workplace.
