Who We Are

OUR MISSION

Established in 1999, the LVMPD Foundation exists to support and supplement Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department programs and initiatives. This includes programs that prevent crime, save lives and make Southern Nevada a safer place to live, work and visit.

OUR VISION

To increase the safety of our community by supporting initiatives including updated technology, equipment, higher education scholarships for children of officers, as well as hundreds of community engagement and public safety programs.

OUR GOALS

Our goal is to continue to increase our support of Sheriff Lombardo and LVMPD’s commitment to community engagement programs. We seek to improve lives and communities, especially communities of color. Through funding a variety of community engagement and public safety programs, we strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and residents to enable a safer Southern Nevada.

We continue to strive to be a step ahead of those who wish to do harm in our communities by spearheading the formation of the Nevada Joint Training Center. This state-of-the-art facility will provide a cooperative world-class training campus for Nevada’s First Responders.

What We Do

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation is an independent nonprofit established in 1999 that exists to raise funds to support and supplement Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department efforts to make Southern Nevada a safer place to live, work and visit.

Over the last few years, the LVMPD Foundation has significantly increased our impact by recruiting business and community leaders to our Board of Directors and expanding the scope of our programmatic work and events, and grown fundraising from less than $200,000 a few years ago to over $10 million last year.

The Foundation supports a diverse array of initiatives each year to include updated equipment and technology for the Department such as drones for SWAT, video crime cameras, and ShotSpotter; advanced officer training; support for the families of fallen officers; higher education scholarships for children of officers; and, hundreds of community engagement and public safety programs and events such as Every 15 Minutes, which aims to reduce traffic fatalities by educating new teen drivers on the safest ways to travel the roads, Santa Cops, and the Bolden Little League.

The Foundation hosts six primary events each year.

  • Hidden Heroes Black & White Gala
  • Wonder Women of Metro Luncheon
  • Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
  • Lunch with the Sheriff
  • Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala
  • K-9 Trials

These events and the dozens of others funded by the Foundation annually including Back to School Backpack and Supply drives, Trunk or Treat parties, and Holiday Toy and Bike drives serve to build stronger relationships and greater trust between the community and law enforcement.

Awareness campaigns are also an important part of the Foundation’s work.  Law Enforcement Appreciation Day provides the opportunity for the Foundation to rally the support of the entire community and send a strong message of gratitude to our officers.  Earlier this year, as part of the Foundation’s Go True Blue Campaign, the Foundation garnered the participation of over 60 properties on and off the Las Vegas Strip that simultaneously turned their marquees blue or displayed the LVMPD Foundation logo with customized messaging in support of LVMPD and local law enforcement.  This cohesive message of pride in our police heroes was seen by communities all over the world thanks to the extensive media coverage that all of our partners received during this coordinated demonstration of gratitude.

As we look ahead, the Foundation has taken on the biggest project in our history: the funding and development of a new reality-based training facility that will be the first buildings in a larger joint regional training facility that will be the first of its kind in the western United States.  The Foundation is currently conducting a capital campaign to raise $25 million for the first phase of this exciting project.

Like many communities around the nation, Southern Nevada is facing hardship. The increase in service demands of LVMPD during the pandemic has had a severe impact on existing resources.   As the crisis continues to keep most of us at home, our LVMPD heroes do not have the option of working remotely and face the challenges of implementing social distancing, working through child-care options and other daily life issues, all while continuing to serve.
