Who We Are

Project Dot was founded by two Las Vegas teenagers who wanted to make a difference in their community.

They volunteered at many homeless shelters in the community and saw that many of the homeless people coming to the food kitchens were women and that hygiene kits were geared for men.  They put two and two together and realized that the women on the streets and low-income women and girls didn't have any tampons or pads to help them when it was their time of the month.

Carrying around boxes of feminine hygiene items is not practical when you are homeless and many girls are reluctant to go to their school nurse when they start their monthly cycle. That's why Project Dot distributes monthly hygiene kits in a small decorative bag to those who need these items, when they need them.

What We Do

Project Dot's mission is to provide feminine hygiene products to homeless and low income girls, women, binary and transmen to give them dignity and  help take the hassle of having their monthly cycles while raising awareness of the need for proper hygiene and generating community support for the homeless and low income community.

The typical hygiene kits that are being created for homeless are made with men in mind and do not include the essential items that girls, women, non-binary and transmen need when they are on their period.  And feminine hygiene items are the least donated items to shelters in our community.

When our homeless girls and women are already struggling to meet their basic needs, providing them with the pads and tampons gives them dignity and one less thing to worry about.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Project Dot was supplying 200 feminine hygiene kits a month to help homeless and low-income women and girls have the items they need, when they need them most.  We have been working with partners such as Communities In Schools, Street Teens and HELP of Southern Nevada and the city of Las Vegas to ensure that Project Dot kits are delivered efficiently. Since March, Project Dot has distributed more than 2,500 kits in 6 months, doubling their production and have added partners such as Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, UNLV HOPE Scholars, SHARE Village and the Just One Project.
